Mountains & Vistas

One of the most identifiable monuments in the Sedona, Arizona area

My wife and I were hiking in the Sedona area in an unusually wet February.  Many of the trails were washed out or very muddy.   This view of the Cathedral was looking at it from a park by a river.  The water had been up into the park and caused a lot of damage.  Nevertheless the view was spectacular. I took some reference pictures so I could do a painting of this monument when I got back to my studio.  I used various colors in the shadows to contrast with the red rock.  I also painted the sky more dramatic to symbolize the feeling of awe that you experience when you are there.
